About
The purpose behind this interactive plugin was to simulate a part of the mixing process used in creating
the tracks for Smear Campaign. Though it's presentation is not all too similar to what is generally seen
inside of a digital audio workstation (DAW), the hands on approach will give inexperienced users a better
understanding of the process.
Each audio clip used by the plugin is either an outtake or a small slice out of a track from the
Smear Campaign album. These clips are all rooted in the dark ambient realm, but the mechanics
portrayed are the same for every genre.
How To
Move the 4 colored markers around on top of the album art to adjust the sound. Moving up and down
will adjust the volume and moving left to right will change the clip's effect level. There are two
methods of controlling the mixer.
Keyboard and Mouse:
Each one of the four sound clips is tied to a letter on the keyboard. Viewing the clip names from top
to bottom, the toggle keys are Z, X, C and V respectively. To turn a sample on and off, hold the
shift key and press the toggle key for that particular sample. Using the keyboard and mouse together
it is possible to simultaneously move more than 1 maker. To move a marker, hold down it's toggle key
(without holding the shift key) and move the mouse. The markers will move relatively with the mouse
movement. Please note that mouse movements made outside of the plugin boundaries will not register.
Mouse Only:
To grab onto a marker, move the mouse over one of the colored dots found on the album art, and press
down the left mouse bottom. While holding the mouse button down, drag the marker around
to adjust the volume and effect levels. To turn the samples on and off, click the colored markers
found next to the clip names.
When ready, click the "Rec" button to record up to 3 minutes of beautifully remixed destruction.
